Thurston O. McKelvey, Jr. (“Bill” to his family), 65, of Mishawaka passed away in his home. He was born on September 6, 1957, to Thurston O. and Bonnie Leona (Richardson) McKelvey in South Bend, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Linda “Sue” Crain, S. “Jane” Dils, and Lola M. McKelvey; and his nephew, Kevin L. Crain. Thurston also leaves behind his four beloved Rat Terries fur babies.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa S. (Tara Alwine) McKelvey of Mishawaka; his brother, John W. (Phyllis) McKelvey of Murray, Kentucky; nephews, Keith A. (Lori) Crain of South Bend, Randy C. Dils of Granger, Johnnie J. McKelvey of Murray, Kentucky, Todd A. (Angie) Dils of Shipshewana; nieces, Lori A. (Don) Kaser of South Bend, and Jessica M. McKelvey of Galien, Michigan.

Thurston was a proud “Westside Panther” graduating from Washington High School. For over 40 years, he worked in many capacities in the plastic molding industry, most often as a supervisor. He retired from PSI Molded Plastics in South Bend. Thurston’s love for fishing kept him on the St. Joseph River and most of the lakes in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. One of his favorites was Lake Erie in Ohio for Walleye. He never turned down an opportunity to sing for a group of people. Karaoke was made for him, and he loved it.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Palmers Funeral Home to help the family with expenses.
