BETTY L. MANNING

Feb. 2, 1957 - June 6, 2007
SOUTH BEND - Betty L. Manning, 50, of Wright Road, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 6, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

She was a graduate of Washington High School and was employed by the Healthwin Nursing Facility.

Betty became a member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Sam Chase at an early age, and remained a member until her death under the leadership of Rev. Andre Wells. She was very active on many committees of the church and was president of the youth department. Betty was so very proud of her "kids," as she would call them.

Betty was born to the union of Lucille and Clarence Collier on Feb. 2, 1957. She was united in marriage to Thomas Manning on November 2, 1997. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Collier, Martha Laster, her paternal grandmother, and Rastus Oliver, her maternal grandfather.

Betty is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas; and her loving children, Larissa, Dewanda, Angela, Terrence, Thomas Jr., Cynthia and Laurie, all of South Bend; and the heart of her life, four beautiful grandchildren, Breanna, Camren, Stephanie and Dontae. She will be missed by her father, Clarence (Karen) Collier; and sisters, Lillie Fellows of Dallas, TX, Linda (Morris) Smith and Eloise (Earl) Collier; a stepsister, Tina (Jeff) Kendall, all of South Bend; and a stepbrother, Walter (Janis) Gelbas of Dayton, OH. Betty was blessed with 14 nieces and nephews, each adoring their Aunt Betty, and a host of many, many friends, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The family express thanks to the members of Saint Joseph Medical Center for their care and support given to the family.

Services will be held at Second Baptist Church, Fillmore Road, South Bend. Pastor Rev. Andre Wells is officiating at noon on Tuesday, June 12. Visitation is one hour before services. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
