Denise H. Givens

Aug. 22, 1959 - Sept. 8, 2017

SOUTH BEND - Denise H. Givens, 58, of Inwood Rd. in South Bend, Indiana, departed this life on September 8, 2017. Affectionately known as “Necie,” she was born on August 22, 1959, to the union of William Henry Givens and Cara Winnie Givens in South Bend, Indiana. Both parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a dear and loving brother, Williams Givens lll.

Denise was an accomplished woman who received her formal education in the South Bend Community School Corporation. She graduated from Washington High School in 1978, earned a BA from Saint Mary's College Notre Dame, Indiana. She also served on the Board of Regents at Saint Mary's College. After graduating from Saint Mary's, she worked for St. Joseph County DuComb Center. She also worked as a caseworker for the State of Indiana.

Denise relocated to Van Nuys, California, where she worked with the Los Angeles Court System. Denise attended Law School at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where she received her law degree. She later took a job working for the St. Joe County Prosecutor's Office where she spearheaded the law precinct on the West side of South Bend, Indiana.

Denise was a very wise and articulate woman who prided herself on giving sound and educated counsel to all. As her Dear Mother Cara Coolie Givens, she was an avid reader and educator. She taught as a professor at Indiana University at South Bend. She spent quality time pouring into her two beautiful nieces: Cara O. Givens and Kaylee E. Givens. They were the love of her life. Denise also cherished her Sister-in-Love, Debra Givens, as she patiently and lovingly assisted in her care. Denise loved the Lord Jesus and accepted Him into her life at a very early age. She loved listening to hymns and the Word of God. She often expressed her love and gratitude for her honorable twin brother, Dr. Dennis Givens, who she loved to hear teach and preach the Word of God to so many.

Denise will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her twin brother, Apostle Dennis James Givens (Debra), pastor of New Horizons Outreach Ministry in South Bend, Indiana, and in Benton Harbor, Michigan; her two beautiful nieces: Cara O. Givens and Kaylee E. Givens; Aunt Frances DeLancy of Chicago, Illinois, Peaches Jones of Bowling Brook, Illinois, Danny Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dorinda (John) Dixon, Chicago, Illinois, Judge Danny Williams (Wendy) Danette Williams, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Thomas Gentry Williams (Ureka) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a loving host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
