Jan. 15, 1954 - May 20, 2012 SOUTH BEND - Mr. Robert C. "Cardell" Weaver Jr., 58, dear son, father, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, passed away on May 20, 2012, in South Bend, Indiana. He was born January 15, 1954, in South Bend, Indiana, to Robert C. and Rosie L. (Butler) Weaver Sr.

He received his formal education through the South Bend Community School system, graduating from Washington High School in 1973 where he played on the football team and ran track. He attended and graduated from Ivy Tech Community College where he studied machinery.

He worked for Bendix Corporation, South Bend Community School Corporation, and for Holiday Corporation. Growing up, Robert began playing the bongos after his older brother, Tyrone. As he got older, he showed interest in the congas and played in different bands. One band was called the "Misfits." Robert also played with Johnny Davis who performs with Darryl Buchanan. The band Robert is best known for was called "Special Edition" under George Thomas. They would play at Washington High School after the games when dances were held. They traveled to different cities where they would be the opening act for different shows, which led them to open for Janet Jackson in St. Louis, Missouri. Robert was an avid pool player and played for Jelly's Bar, the Amvets and the V.F.W. He won several trophies. Robert attended and played his congas at Pentecostal under Bishop Donald L. Alford Sr. He also played for New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Stephen Reed and at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Rickardo Taylor, until his illness prevented him from continuing.

Robert is survived by his mother, Rosie L. (Butler) Weaver; one son, Robert C. Weaver III; two sisters, Lorna M. (Walter) Taylor and Sharon D. (David Lax) Weaver, all of South Bend, Indiana; nieces, Antoinette (Arthur) Booker of Rochester, Michigan, Theresa Weaver and Lakesha Taylor, both of South Bend; nephews, Lynell Mitchem and Andrew Blue Jr., both of South Bend; two uncles, Henry Butler of Indianapolis, Indiana, and William Butler of South Bend; four aunts, Jessie Butler of South Bend, Norma Wilson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kathleen Morgan and Karleen Weaver, both of Kokomo, Indiana; best friend, Calvin Sutton; and play-brother, William Riddick; along with many great-nieces. great-nephews, cousins and friends, who will dearly miss him.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Weaver Sr.; brother, Tyrone Weaver; grandparents, Robert Carson Weaver and Avis Weaver, William Butler and Amanda Butler; uncle, James Weaver; aunts, Betty Weaver and Anna Taylor.

Funeral services for Robert C. Weaver Jr. will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, in Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 137 E. Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and services at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, Indiana. Visit www.clarkoneal.com to sign his guestbook.
