Lloyd Douglas Owens Sr

Lloyd Douglas Owens Sr. age 69 of South Bend, Indiana was called to eternal rest on Tuesday, August 22nd in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving family. Lloyd was born July 6, 1954, to the union of the late Hermon and Irena M. Bolton Owens in South Bend, Indiana. He received Christ at an early age at the Cherry Street COGIC, Niles, MI.

Lloyd received his formal education in the SBCSC and was a graduate of Washington High School class of 1973. He then entered Barber School in Indianapolis, IN.

He met the love of his life, the former Emma Baker in 1978 and after a number of blissful years of dating; the two were united in Holy Matrimony on December 12, 1983. This union was blessed with a loving family of one daughter and three sons. Lloyd was a exemplary husband and father, leaving his sons an impressive model to pattern.

Lloyd was employed by the University of Notre Dame for a number of years. Upon retirement he resumed employment with St. Joseph County Real Services. There he gave of his services until his health no longer permitted.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Hermon Owens, Jr. and Irena M. (Clyde) Reed; Brothers: Clyde Reed, Jr. and Robert Lynn Reed Sr. Paternal Grandparents, Hermon and Birdie Lee Owens, Sr., Maternal Grandparents, Douglas and Emma Mae Bolton.

Lloyd was a loving husband and faithful father who cherished each moment spent with his beloved family. His commitment to his family was above all else. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Emma; Daughter, Allison and her husband Scott Labadie. Sons: Lloyd D Owens, Jr., Tyrone L. Owens and fiancée Nicole Brownlee and Regis D. Owens. 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Brothers; Lester L. Owens and Bishop Stephen Reed. Sisters: Gail M. Price, Letha L (Anthony) Brown, Brenda A. Reed, Stephanie Reed and Florine Jennings. Uncles: Rev. Lefate (Ora Lee) Owens, Joe K. Owens, Rev. Dr. H. Dwight Bolton and Leon Davis. Aunts: Francis Herrell, and Lowree (Wiley) Ware; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lloyd’s family will forever cherish the memories of his bright smile, his steady presence, and his unconditional love. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.
