Rita Jane (Borowski) Snyder

South Bend - Rita Jane Snyder, 89, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 in her home at the Bell Tower Health & Rehabilitation Center after a struggle with illness. Rita was born May 22, 1929 in South Bend, to the late Walter and Clara (Deka) Borowski. Rita is also preceded in death by her son, Mickey Snyder; and sisters, Barbara Szuch & Loretta Catalino.

Rita leaves behind her niece & caregiver, Teena (Mike) Lutomski; nieces and nephews, Melonie (Larre) Rhodes Henry (Kathleen) Catalino, David Szuch, all of South Bend, Sherrie Singleton of Sheridan, IN., and Michele of Daly City, CA, & Denise; devoted son-in-law, Jimmy Wenrick; and estranged daughter, Mardell Wenrick and three estranged grand-daughters, Jennifer, Sherry and Michele and a great grandson, Garrett.

Rita was born and raised in South Bend, she then moved to Glendale Arizona in her early adulthood. In 1985, Rita’s sister, Loretta moved to Arizona, and later her sister, Bobbie. Rita worked at K-mart, and Kresge’s. Rita’s nieces & nephews made sure that their mother, Loretta and Rita were kept busy & happy, up to the moment of passing. The pair were known as the “The Sisters “. Rita and Loretta were volunteers at the Banner Estrella Hospital in the gift shop. They were both ushers at the Gila River Arena for the Phoenix Coyotes. In 2010, Rita & Loretta moved back to South Bend to be with the remainder of the family. Rita also enjoyed working out at Curves, eating ice cream, feeding the critters, birds, squirrels, ducks and geese, and attending Notre Dame Women’s basketball games.

There will be a Memorial Mass for Rita to be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in St. Judes Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. is assisting the family.
