Dorothy Leona "Dottie" (Popielski) Pacay

Dorothy L. “Dottie” Pacay, 75, formerly of South Bend, passed away at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28 in St Joseph Hospital, Kokomo., Ind,  Mrs. Pacay worked for over 20 years at the Western State Bank in South Bend. Dottie was a member of St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, its PTO, Choir, and Altar and Rosary Society. She proudly held an office with the DAV., and was a member of American Turners. Dorothy loved cooking, movies, opera and found the greatest joy in her home, family and dear friends  Dorothy was born on April 11, 1929, in South Bend to Andrew and Martha (Pierzynski) Popielski.

On April 29, 1948, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, she married Richard Pacay. He died on Nov. 16, 1965. She was also preceded in death by her parents: a brother, Richard Popielski, and his wife, Pauline; a brother-in-law, Joseph Szekendi; and brother and sister-in-law, John (Mary) Pacay. 

Dottie is survived by two daughters, Constance (Larry C.) Brown of Kokomo and Rebecca (Robert L.) Steinmeier of Long Grove, Ill.; three granddaughters, Heather Brown, Hannah Brown and Sara Steinmeier; a sister, Ruth Szekendi, and a brother, Daniel (Jo Ann) Popielski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge or to the Homeless Shelter.
