SOUTH BEND — Tony Csenar, 69. of North Elmer Street, South Bend, Ind., died following a brief and brave battle with leukemia at 7:30 p.m. on Tues-day Jan. 19, in his residence. Mr. Csenar was a firefighter for the South Bend Fire Department, holding the rank of captain. His 42 years of continuous service at the time of his death is the longest tenure of any active South Bend firefighter. He was born to Anna (Wild) and Jacob Csenar on May 27, 1929, in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. 

On May 2, 1953, he married Phyllis M. Badur in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in South Bend. She survives. He is also survived by his mother, Anna Csenar of South Bend; a daughter. Mary (Tom) Pluta of South Bend; five sons, Jim (Vicki) Csenar of Indianapolis, Ind., Jerry (Patti) Csenar of Virginia Beach, Va., John (Beverly) Csenar of Marietta, Ga., Tom (Meg) Csenar of Granger. Ind., and Rob (Mary) Csenar of Arlington Heights, eleven grandchildren, Christopher and Carrie Csenar, both of Indianapolis, Teddy and Jake Csenar, both of Virginia Beach, Becky and Jon Pluto, both of South Bend, Matthew and Haley, both of Marietta, Katie and Rachel Csenar, both of Granger, and Emily Csenar of Arlington Heights; a sister, Gisela (Edmund) Probst of South Bend; and by a brother, Frank (Rita) Csenar of Mishawaka.

Mr. Csenar belonged to St. Stanislaus Catholic Parish, the International Association of Firefighters, Local #362, Fire Inspectors Association of Indiana, M.R. Falcons Nest 4, Z. B. Falcons Conservation Club, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, American Legion Pulaski Post 357, and Veterans of Foreign Wars-Golden Hill Post 8748. He was also a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars-Golden Hill Post 8748. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, P.O.
