Norbert A. "Norby" Celichowski

Norbert A. "Norby" Celichowski, 77, of South Bend, passed away at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, in his residence.

Norby was born on March 25, 1929, in South Bend, to Leo and Constance. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Allen; and his siblings, Dorothy Steinhoffer, Audrey Celichowski and Ervin Celichowski.

On May 10, 1952, he married Rita Orlowski in South Bend. She survives along with two daughters, Anita Celichowski of South Bend and Sylvia (Craig) Mathews of South Bend; son, Chris Celichowski of Michigan; grandson, Adam (Tanya) Celichowski of South Bend; and two great-grandchildren, Sasha and Jade Celichowski.

Norby retired from Notre Dame after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, Holy Name Society, and FOP Association 155. He was an avid fisherman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 South Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 19, at 11 a.m. in St. Adalbert Catholic Church.
