John J. Koszyk

John J. Koszyk, 81, of Village Way, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, in his residence. He was born on Jan. 14, 1922, in South Bend, to Konstanty and Elizabeth (Rupik) Koszyk, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bert Koszyk and Eugene Koszyk; and by a sister, Mary Major. John married Pauline Ptak on Nov. 27, 1948, in Rhode Island.
Surviving him along with his wife, Pauline, is a daughter, Nancy (Robert) Leszczynski of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sons, Gary Koszyk of Mishawaka, Ind., and Stephen (Anne) Koszyk of Granger, Ind.; five grandchildren, John and Jennifer Leszczynski of Fort Wayne, Aaron, Stephanie and Emily Koszyk of Granger; a sister, Alice (Leonard) Ciesielski of Portage, Ind.; and three brothers, Cass Kosik, Joseph Koszyk and Ervin Koszyk, all of South Bend.
,John retired after 35 years as a postal carrier from the U.S. Post Office. He worked for 22 years at Crow Chizek after he retired from the post office. John was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, the AARP, American Legion #357, and the Federal Employee Retirees.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 9, in the St JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, in the funeral home, with visitation one hour before. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of St. Joseph County or to St. Adalbert Catholic Church.
