Matthew Barczykowski, 83, of Sussex Drive, South Bend, passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2005, in his residence. He was born on December 30, 1921, in South Bend, to Stephen and Mary (Michalski) Barczykowski, who preceded him in death along with brothers, Sylvester, Harry, Victor, Ben and Leonard Barczykowski; and sisters, Florence Taberski, Helen Taberski, Severine Cholasinski, Evelyn Wieczorek and Veronica Zakrocki. 

On October 23, 1948, in St. Adalbert Church, Matthew married Lucille Gadowski. Surviving Matthew are his wife, Lucille; sons, Martin Barczykowski of Glendale, Arizona, and Mark (Ann) Barczykowski of Buchanan, Michigan; two grandchildren, Brenton Barczykowski and Robert Pauwels, both of Buchanan, Michigan; and a sister, Louise Marshall of South Bend.

Matthew retired after 21 years of service with the South Bend Police Department and 16 years with Kreamo Bakery. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II. Matthew was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, American Legion Post 357, F.O.P. Lodge 36, V.F.W. and D.A.V. 61. 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, from 3 to 8 p.m. in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, June 30, 2005, at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 St. Johns Way, South Bend, IN 46628.
