Lawrence F. "Cal" Calhoun, 51, of Pelzer, South Carolina, formerly of Mishawaka, passed away in his home on Monday, January 2, 2006.

Cal was born February 18, 1954, in South Bend, a son of James and Helen Sc(Dudek) Calhoun. He grew up in South Bend and graduated from Washington High School in 1972. On May 7, 1976, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, South Bend, Cal married the former Sharon Kerckaert. A short time later the couple settled in Mishawaka. Cal worked for Dodge Manufacturing and Lock Joint Tube before moving to South Carolina to take a job with Greenville General Electric Turbine Plant. He loved and was very devoted to his work. Cal was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Mauldin, SC. He loved music of all kinds and enjoyed playing cards. Cal's children and grandchildren were an important part of his life, and the grandchildren affectionately called him "PaPa."

Cal's surviving family includes his wife of 29 years, Sharon; three children, Robert A. (Amy) Carr of South Bend, Kathryn L. Carr and Deborah L. Regan, both of Mishawaka; two brothers, Richard (Susan) Calhoun of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Thomas (Kathy) Calhoun of Carmel, IN; his father, James of Winamac; his father-in-law, Maurice Kerckaert of South Bend; and four grandchildren, Alicia A. Carr, Michael Lawrence Carr, Elizabeth S. Regan and Alexander B. Regan.

Cal was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Calhoun; and by his mother-in-law, Elsie Kerckaert.

Friends may spend time with Cal's family on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka. The visitation will begin with the Rosary being prayed at 4 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 South Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ronald McDonald House. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.
