Charlene M. Balukiewicz Dec. 11, 1938 - Nov. 2, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Charlene M. Balukiewicz, 75, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2014, in Memorial Hospital. Charlene was born on December 11, 1938, in South Bend, to Joseph A. and Florence A. (DeBaets) Pinter, and was a lifelong resident. She retired in October 2001 from NIPSCO, where she had been employed for 25 years.

On June 6, 1959, in the former Sacred Heart Parish (the Belgian Church, formerly on Thomas St.) in South Bend, she married Thomas A. Balukiewicz, who survives. Also surviving are her two daughters, Karen S. (David) Ogden of Granger, Indiana, and Kathryn M. (John) Russell of Osceola, Indiana; and two grandsons, Michael D. Ogden and Nicholas J. Russell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, University of Notre Dame. Friends may call from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, and from 8:30 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. Thursday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Cremation and interment at Highland Cemetery will follow at a later date.

Charlene was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. Charlene was a longtime volunteer at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. In addition to her deep love of family, she enjoyed golfing, traveling, and her friends aka "The Raisinettes." The family has chosen to donate Charlene's corneas and connective tissue through Indiana Organ Procurement. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoication.
