John E. Markiewicz
John E. Markiewicz April 10, 1937 - Aug. 2, 2014 SOUTH BEND - John E. Markiewicz, 77, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Hospice House in South Bend, following a battle with cancer. He was born on April 10, 1937 to the late Edward L. and Lottie (Malkowski) Markiewicz in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Litka and Sister M. Loretta.
Mr. Markiewicz retired in 1999 from Bendix-Allied Signal- Honeywell Company, where he worked as a pipe fitter for 31 years. Prior to that, he worked at Studebakers until they closed in 1963.
On January 9, 1960, he married Kay Hoofnagle at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. John is survived by his loving wife, Kay S. Markiewicz of South Bend, IN; four sons, John (wife Becky) Markiewicz, Jr. of South Bend, IN, Kenneth Markiewicz of Rochester Hills, MI, Thomas Markiewicz of South Bend, IN, and William (partner Dan Kraner) Markiewicz of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren, Matthew (wife Veronica), John, III, Eran (fianc‚ Dustin), Samantha, Jared, Cameron, and Ayrien; six great-grandchildren, Teylore, Kai, Leland, Valeria, Zayleigh, and Harper; and one sister, Rita Zielinski of South Bend, IN.
John was a member of Holy Family Parish. His family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Rafat Ansari, M.D. and his staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology for the wonderful care they provided for John.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
