In Memory
Yvonne Marlene (Paul) Freel
August 20, 1946 ~ January 30, 2025
Yvonne Marlene Freel, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, in Mishawaka, Indiana, at the age of 78. Born on August 20, 1946, in Twin Falls, Idaho, Yvonne was a beacon of joy and warmth to all who knew her.
Yvonne spent her early years in Twin Falls, where she was surrounded by the love of her parents, Bob and Nina Paul, both of whom preceded her in death. She carried on the values of family and community throughout her life, which were deeply instilled in her during those formative years. Yvonne's journey led her to South Bend, Indiana, where she would eventually lay down roots and create a life filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of freshly baked goods.
In South Bend, Yvonne met and married the love of her life, Lawrence R. Freel Sr., who preceded her in death in 1991. Together, they built a family and a home that was always open and welcoming. Yvonne's legacy lives on through her children: Rebecca (Scott) Gorney of South Bend, IN, Sarah Freel of South Bend, IN, Theodore Freel of Osceola, IN, and her son Lawrence Freel Jr., who passed before her. Her joy was multiplied with the birth of her grandchildren, Alexander and William, who brought her immeasurable happiness.
Yvonne was a beloved sibling to her sisters, Sherry Duty of Michigan, Susie (Larry) Clark of North Liberty, IN, Mary Trzaskowski of Oregon, and her late sister, Dorothy Snyder. She also shared a special bond with her brothers, Bob (Tina) Paul of New Carlisle, IN, Edward (Judy) Paul of Michigan, and was preceded in death by her brothers Walter and Alan Paul.
Professionally, Yvonne was a dedicated Bakery Clerk at Martins Supermarkets, where she was known for her infectious smile and the care she put into her work. Her colleagues and customers alike were touched by her kindness and her ability to make everyone feel special.
Yvonne's interests were as warm and inviting as her personality. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was sharing meals or simply being in each other's company. Her passion for cooking was evident to anyone who had the pleasure of tasting her dishes, many of which were inspired by the latest recipes she discovered on YouTube. Yvonne's culinary adventures often led to the creation of "strange things," as she liked to call them, which became beloved staples at family gatherings.
In her earlier years, Yvonne was a pillar of the community, serving as a Leader for her son's Cub Scouts and for the girls' Bluebirds and Girl Scouts. Her commitment to these organizations demonstrated her belief in the importance of nurturing the growth and development of young minds.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Homes-Welsheimer North Chapel 17033 Cleveland Rd. South Bend, IN 46635. Burial will take place at a later date at Highland Cemetery. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com
