Deidra Ann Howard (White)

DEIDRA  A. (HOWARD) WHITE

Oct. 24, 1945 - Nov. 2, 2011 SOUTH BEND - Deidra A. White, who resided in South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011, in her residence with her husband, Clarence of 46 years, by her side. On October 24, 1945, Deidra was born to the union of Ida and the late Levi Howard in Chicago, Illinois.

The family moved to South Bend, Indiana, in 1947 where Deidra attended the South Bend Public Schools and graduated from Washington High School.

Deidra worked at the South Bend Medical Foundation for many years before she began working for the school system. She ended her employment career, retiring from Washington High School as the attendance secretary in 1997. Deidra was an original member of The South Bend Black Reunion Committee that held their events in 1990 and 1993, which she dearly loved. DeeDee's favorite pastime was sitting at her kitchen table watching Wheel of Fortune, doing crossword puzzles, cooking, and making her famous "DeeDee trays." She also cherished spending time with her family and her closest friends.

Deidra and Clarence were introduced to one another in 1963 and on March 13, 1965, they were united in marriage. To this union they were blessed to have three children who will miss her dearly. Deidra was an active member at her church, St. Augustine, until she became ill. She knew the Lord and had a personal relationship with Him.

Deidra is survived by a loving family of her husband, Clarence White; one daughter, Kimberly Austin of South Bend; and two sons, Anthony (Gina) White of O'Fallon, Illinois, and Scott White of South Bend; her mother, Ida Howard of South Bend; one sister, Pamela (Daniel) Hardy of Granger, Indiana; two brothers, Frederick (Donna) Howard of Carmel, Indiana, and Ronald Howard of South Bend. Deidra has seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends who have been with our family every step of the way.

Special thanks to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Hospital and Center for Hospice Care of St. Joseph County for the special care given. May God bless you.
