BENEDICT S. "BENNY" WACHOWIAK
Benny S. Wachowiak Feb. 27, 1931 - Aug. 12, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Benny S. Wachowiak, 83, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014, in his residence surrounded by his family. Benny was born February 27, 1931, in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Jane (Kupczynski) Wachowiak.
On August 5, 1972, Benny married his loving wife, Beverly (Jones) Wachowiak; she survives along with a son, Morris B. Wachowiak of South Bend; brother, Raymond (Georgianne) Wachowiak of South Bend; sisters, Betty (Bob) Horvath of Mishawaka and Lorraine (Romey) Zanetti of Elkhart; father-in-law, Morris "Casey" (Sherri) Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
Benny honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Washington High School and star center of the football team.
He was employed with Midland Engineering, Gibson Lewis and Weller's Auto. Benny also was a member of the American Legion Post #357, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, the PNA Club, and M.R. Falcons. Benny spent many years playing the guitar at home and with a small band. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Benny was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan.
Visitation for Benny will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Funeral Ceremony will be celebrated at 1:00 pm. Private interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. The family wishes to express a special "Thank You" to Dennis and Carrie Gaul, Rich and Dawn Elm and the Center for Hospice for the wonderful care, treatment and love they gave to Benny. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
