Charles L. VanWynsberghe
April 15, 1931 — Dec. 25, 2004

Charles L. VanWynsberghe, 73 of Stoneridge Street, South Bend passed away on Christmas evening at Hospice House surrounded by his family. Chuck was born on April 15, 1931 in Delphos, Ohio to Henri VanWynsberghe of Bellum, Belgium and Elizabeth Shock VanWynsberghe of Ohio who both preceded him in death.

On August 21, 1954 he married Janie, the love of his life at Holy Family Church, South Bend, who survives. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by holding hands and with continued love on August 21, 2004. Chuck is also survived by his daughters, Cynthia L. Miller, South Bend; Charlene (Mike) Everett, Niles, MI; and Suzan VanWynsberghe, South Bend; grandchildren, Joshua M. Miller, Christopher C. Miller, Sarah C. Everett and Austin M. Everett. Also surviving are brother Raymond (Marlene) VanWynsberghe and sister Gloria (Mike) Urbanskl. A brother, Robert (Joanne) VanWynsberghe preceded him in death. Chuck is also survived by his sisters in law that he held with a special fondness in his heart; Baby Doll (Joe) Gondocs, Janice (Fred) Wolack, Beckie Funkhouser, Diane (Tom) Deal and his favorite cousin, Ray, Jr. of Ohio. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews whom he loved and admired.

Chuck was a life long resident of South Bend and a graduate of Washington High School. He was a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service.

He worked for 40 years at Ready Froze which became Simon Brothers Foods and Clark Foods, from which he retired in 1996. He enjoyed retirement immensely. He and Janie spent winters with their many friends in Florida and Chuck especially enjoyed the lively conversations over coffee. He was an avid reader, usually having three books in process at a time and of course, there was never a flea market that he didn't enjoy browsing. He was his families creative handyman and he loved any fix-it project he was challenged with. He had a great sense of humor and wit; he cherished his family and friends and for that he will always be loved and remembered. Chuck was a good man who touched the hearts of all who knew him. He was a great father and protector for his daughters, who learned from him what unconditional love really means. It is said that the greatest gift a father can give his children is to love their mother, and that he did very well.

Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29 at Little Flower Church, 54191 Ironwood Road, South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, is handling the arrangements and cremation, the internment arrangements are pending. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Chuck's memory be made to Little Flower Church, 54191 Ironwood Road, South Bend, Indiana 46637 for the Debt Reduction Campaign or the Little Flower Food Pantry.
