ELKHART - Clayborn Harris went home to his heavenly father on May 29, 2008, at Memorial hospital, South Bend of natural causes. Clayborn was born to Robert L. Harris Sr. and the late Annie (Tipton) Harris on February 22, 1952 in Gary, IN. The family moved to South Bend in 1958.

He attended Washington High School and then moved to California, where he graduated from San Fernado Valley High School.

Clayborn received Christ at an early age. He was baptized by Pastor Herman Hubart in Community Missionary Baptist Church in Redlands, California. Clay was a truck driver for Ryder Trucking Co. He enjoyed being with his family, listening to his old school music, laughing, and talking with others. His hobby was taking pictures so he could preserve memories of his family and friends. He loved his eighteen-wheeler, because he loved to travel state to state. In 1985, Clayborn united with Greater New Zion MBC of Cleveland, OH under the leadership of Pastor Will Hamlett.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, Glenda Coleman-Harris of Elkhart; his father, Robert L. Harris Sr.; four children, Anthony W. Harris of Elkhart, Damon L. Harris and Shawnese R. Harris both of Memphis, TN; and Kiisha (Dennis) Donathen of Granger, IN; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Adam and Aljonon Coleman of Elkhart; brothers, Richard (Wilma) Harris, Kenneth (Brenda) Harris, and Clifford (Jackie) Harris, all of South Bend, Carl (Barbara) Harris of Blythe, CA, Roy (Carol) Harris of Land Caster, TX, and James (Pam) Harris of Cleveland, OH; a half-brother, Big James of Cedar Halls, TX; three sisters, Beatrice Wakefield and Dorothy Hamilton, both of Cleveland, OH and Roberta Sharp of South Bens. Also a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends he cherished dearly.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Annie Lee (Tipton) Harris; brothers, Toby and Robert L. Harris; and a sister, Brenda Bethany.

Services for Mr. Clayborn Harris will be Friday, June 6, 2008, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, Visitation 11:00 a.m., Funeral service 12:00 noon. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
