SOUTH BEND, IN - Cathy J. Mentag, 65, was called home to God on Saturday, August 25, 2018, surrounded by love, in the arms of her family, in South Bend, IN.
Cathy was born to the late William “Bill” and Iris (Carter) Butler on March 8, 1953 in South Bend.
She was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1971. On August 19, 1972, she married the love of her life, Gary Mentag. They recently celebrated 46 years of undying love and marital bliss. Cathy was lovingly referred to as “Chatty Cathy”, as she had a knack for being able to talk your ear off. Her beautiful laughter could be heard from what seemed like miles away.
Cathy worked for the State of Indiana for 16 years and was known as “Mama Cathy” to her wonderful co-workers. She enjoyed rides with her husband in their Ford Mustang on the weekends. Cathy enjoyed every minute she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Gary; their four children, Carly (TJ) Mentag-Crawford, Jessica (Doug) Lubelski, Ryan Mentag, and Kevin (Nicole) Mentag; siblings, Bill (Donna) Butler, Paula (Jeff) Cambrin, Linda Bell, and Kirk (Marcia) Butler; grandchildren, Taylor Mentag, Justin and Riley Crawford, Evan and Addysen Lubelski, Gavin Mentag, and Avery Mentag; great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Mentag; her very best friend, Ruth Szyarto; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles.
Cathy was and forever will be a shining example of selflessness, love, joy, and compassion for her entire family.
Visitation for Cathy will be held 2:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 in the funeral home Chapel.
