NEWARK - Johnny Vann Sr., 59, of Newark, Delaware departed his life on Monday, October 3, 2011. Mr. Vann was born in Crueger, Mississippi to the union of Booker and Willia Vann on November 24, 1951.

He was raised in South Bend, Indiana and attended Washington High School, where he graduated in 1970. There at W.H.S he played football under Coach Van Camp. Johnny played football at W.H.S along with two of his brothers, Booker and Tommy. They were known as the Vann Clan. Johnny won All Conference and All State as offensive back. He won State in his division for wrestling and played four years of football at University of South Dakota.

In 1975 Johnny was drafted by the Washington Redskins as well as the New England Patriots, where he played for three years.

He received his Bachelors Degree in Business Communications from U.S.D., and his Masters in Education Administration at Boston University. At the time of his death he was a principal at Burke High School in Charleston, South Carolina.

He leaves behind a former wife, Earline Vann; two sons, Johnny Vann Jr. and Joshua Vann of Newark, Delaware; two daughters, Joy Austin Vann of Atlanta, Georgia and Juliet Vann of South Bend, Indiana; six brothers, Booker (Brenda) Vann of Middleton, Ohio, Tommy (Tatayanna) Vann of Dekalb, IL, Eddie Vann, Amos Vann, Patrick (Marilyn) Vann, all of South Bend, Indiana, and Andrew Jackson of Chicago, IL; five sisters, Ruby Frison, Dolly Vann Dempsey, Rosie Thesing, Genola (Richard) Johnson, and Stephanie Vann, all of South Bend, Indiana; a special cousin, Reverend Bobby (Elaine) Campbell of Country Club Hills, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Booker and Willia Vann; two sisters, Pearl and Dorothy; and two brothers, Sol and Roger.
