ROLLING PRAIRIE - Kathern J. "Kathy" Brandt, 59, of Rolling Prairie, IN, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, in IU Health LaPorte Hospital. Kathy was born September 3, 1952, in South Bend, and was a lifetime Michiana area resident.

On June 24, 1978, in South Bend, she married Steve L. Brandt, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Chris Welker of South Bend; a grandson, Benjamin Welker; her parents, Thelma (Kelly) and George Spanos of South Bend; and sisters, Vicki (Ray) Schoen of Rochester, IN, and Cindy (Mike) Longfellow of South Bend.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jason E. Brandt in 1998. Kathy was a graduate of South Bend Washington High School and earned an Associate Degree from IUSB. She was an assistant vice-president of Trust Operations for First Source Bank in South Bend where she had been employed for 26 years. She loved spending time in her garden, and greatly enjoyed traveling around the country. But her favorite times were spent with her family, especially her grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., with Rev. Larry Baker of First Brethren Church of South Bend officiating. Committal services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today, December 4th, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Central Indiana Pediatric Hematology Oncology Program, c/o Memorial Regional Cancer Center, 615 N.
