Carl Thomas Rybak, 65, entered into eternal rest on July 30, 2012, with family members at his side. He was a sweet, kind and generous man who made friends wherever he went and never met a stranger. He learned and remembered peoples' names, the things and treats they liked and was quick with a joke and laugh. He leaves his loving wife of 39 years, Joyce (Thale); and children, Deana (Ian) Overking and Brad Rybak; son-in-law, Ian Overking; and his beloved rescue cats, Sam and Max.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Gladys (Lechtanski) Rybak, South Bend, Indiana, where Carl was born on December 1, 1946 and grew up. He was an avid sports fan, particularly of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football. Carl retired after serving the United States for 30 years in both the U.S. Public Health Service, retiring as Commander and the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of Captain. H

e was employed at the Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati, OH. A 1969 graduate of Indiana University, Carl was awarded a Masters of Public Health in 1971 from the University of Michigan.

He was a proud Eagle Scout, a life-long member of St. Adalbert's Parish, South Bend and graduated from Washington H.S., South Bend.

When he and his wife moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, he became an active coach of his children's sports teams. After moving to Columbus, he proudly served as Adjutant of American Legion Post 443. .

Visitation will be at Worthington Christian Church, 8145 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43235 on Friday, August 10, from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. Service will be on Saturday, August 11 at the Church at 11:30 a.m. with visitation from 10-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pennyville, Indiana.
