MICHAEL J. FINN

Michael J. Finn July 13, 1947 - Feb. 2, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Michael Joseph Finn, also known and loved as "Big Mike," 67, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, in his home in Lewisville, North Carolina. Mike was born in Niles, MI, on July 13, 1947, to Martha Jean and Robert E. Finn of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by his mother (1996) and his sister, Carol Jean Finn Barrett (1985).

Mike was active in a variety of different sports as he grew including baseball and football. He was a member of the Mello-men group during all four years of high school. Mike graduated from Washington High School, South Bend, in 1965, and from the Bryant and Stratton College, Chicago, IL, in 1967.

Mike gave service to his country while serving in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 197I, and was active in the reserves until 1974. He attended IUSB for a year while working at Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan, MI. In 1988, Mike and his family moved to Lewisville, NC, when he was transferred to Statesville, NC, for Clark Equipment which later became Ingersoll-Rand and then Dana Company. He retired in 1998 after working 30 years.

Upon retiring he completed many sightseeing trips throughout the United States with his father, Bob. He also spent several years and many long hours working for the YMCA in Clemmons, NC, and the Budd Group in Winston-Salem, NC. Through his lifetime, Mike coached many different sports, influencing and touching many lives both young and old.

He is survived by his father, Robert Finn of South Bend; two sons, Steven Michael (Tamara) Finn of Granger and Brandon Michael Finn (Ivy Martin) of Lewisville, NC; and one daughter, Erin Marisa Finn of Lewisville, NC. Also surviving are his brother, Robert (Debbie) and his sister, Cindy Thrasher, (Bill), both of South Bend. Mike is also survived by one granddaughter, Jordan of Lewisville, NC, and three grandsons, Landon and Jaden of Lewisville, NC, and Casey of Granger, IN. Aong with several loving nieces & nephews, Jennifer Gardner, Matthew Finn, Joshua Finn (Renee), Andrew Finn (Amanda Foresman), Krystal Banicki (Matthew), all of South Bend, and Sarah Thrasher of Fort Wayne, IN, there are 5 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews.

There will be a "Celebration of Life" service for Mike on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at River Park United Methodist Church, 920 S. 23rd Street, South Bend, IN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the local Veterans Administration.
