LAFAYETTE, IN - Mary T. Matheson, 63, of Lafayette, Ind., died at 10:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, in her residence. She was born May 23, 1947, in South Bend, to the late John and Helen Wisniewski Bonczynski.

She graduated from Washington High School in South Bend and has an Associate Degree from Purdue University in industrial supervision.

On June 23, 1973, she married Melvin Matheson in South Bend. He survives.

Mrs. Matheson had worked for the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing as Coordinator of Administrative Services since 1983. Mrs. Matheson enjoyed crocheting, crosstitch, scrapbooking, and time spent with her family. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She was a member of the Matrix Pregnancy Resource Center, where she was a volunteer. She was a former board member and president of the board and was chair of Sweet Celebrations Silent Auction. She was a former chair of the Luminaria Committee, and a former team captain for Relay For Life. She also volunteered at Caregiver Companion. Mrs. Matheson was also a fellow at St. Joseph College.

Surviving are her husband, Melvin L. Matheson, Lafayette; two daughters, Monica Perry (husband: Carl), Indianapolis, and Michelle Tatum (husband: Curtis), Savage, MD; a son, David Matheson (wife: Elizabeth), Lafayette; and a brother, Joseph Bonczynski (wife: Diane), Dowagiac, Mich. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Sophia Nicole Perry.

Visitation was from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2011, in Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 22nd, in St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Fr. Leroy Kinnaman, Fr. Daniel Gartland and Deacon John Jezierski officiated. Burial was at St. Boniface Cemetery.
