EVELYN MARABLE OBITUARY

Aug. 17, 1943 - March 18, 2012 SOUTH BEND - "You left us so suddenly, your thoughts unknown, you left us memories, we are proud to own." (Author Unknown). Evelyn Jean Marable was born August 17, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the oldest of the five children of Jonathan Davis Sr. and Lucille (Shelby) Davis. Evelyn, who was always called "Jean" by family and friends, received her formal education in the South Bend Community School Corporation, graduating in 1961 from Washington High School.

After graduating, she worked briefly for St. Joseph's Hospital, and then began her career as a teacher's aide with the South Bend Community School Corporation, retiring in 2004 after 35 years of service. As a member of the Davis family, Jean was taught as a child to love God. Her parents strongly believed the word of God in Proverbs 22:6. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Jean was a lifelong member of Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ. She served in the following areas: Mothers Board, Assistant Church Secretary, Announcement Clerk, Missions Department and Pastor's Aide. She was also a former member of the Les Leuer's Educational Committee.

Loving and devoted family members who will deeply cherish her memory include her son, Minister Robert L. (Carrie) Marable Jr., Wendell, North Carolina; grandson, Christopher (Patrice) Smith; and twin great-grandsons, Christian and Chrishon Smith, all of Olympia, Washington. Also surviving are her siblings, Jonathan (Denise) Davis Jr., Elder Mitchell Davis, Beverly J. Johnson, Kathy L. (Elder Leonard) Brown and Saundra J. Hetteson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family; her dear friend, Patricia Reynolds; and the many friends she made along her life's journey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonathan and Lucille Davis; and grandparents, Edward and Ida Winfield, and Rev. Mason and Dorothy Davis.

Family dinners will never be the same, because nobody made macaroni and cheese like Jean! Her presence will be sorely missed, but we will always remember her smile, her laughter, and her conversation. She will forever be in out hearts! "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." (Psalm 116:15)

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012, at Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ, and viewing will occur from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where messages of condolence may be e-mailed to Alfordsmortuary@att.net, c/o the Marable family.
