ELKHART - Dominic A. Mattei, 69, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, April 8th, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital, after an extended illness surrounded by family and friends. He was born on June 15, 1942, in South Bend, to Lucy (Sorocco) and Frank Mattei, who both preceded him in death.

Dominic graduated from Washington High School in South Bend, IN, and served honorably in the United States Army.

For 20 years he owned and operated Day Cruiser Van Conversions in Elkhart, IN. Though he traveled extensively over the years, he resided in the Elkhart area for most of his life.

Mr. Mattei is survived by a son, Dominic A. Mattei II of Middlebury, IN, and daughter, Nicole Mattei of Elkhart, IN; three grandchildren, Dominic, Dasha and Vincent Mattei; and one brother, Frank (Judy) Mattei of Osceola, IN. He is also survived by a niece, Deb (Kevin) Kolber, and nephew, Russ (Tisha) Mattei, and numerous aunts, uncles, and extended family members.

Dominic loved the open water, cooking, golf, and most of all his family and close friends.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will not be a visitation or service. A celebration of life, in his honor, will be held at a later date. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home handled arrangements. In Dominic's memory, contributions may be made to the donor's favorite organization.
