John Edwin Spychalski

John Edwin Spychalski, 76, passed away with his wife by his side at 2:48 pm, Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Center for Hospice in Mishawaka.

John was born October 26, 1945 in South Bend to the late Edwin and Genevieve (Lyczynski) Spychalski. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nicky Crane; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Kurdys, and Tom Romary,

Left to cherish the memory of John is his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia (Zakraisek) Spychalski; son, Jeffrey J. (Mindi) Spychalski; grandchildren, Molly, Matthew, Joshua, and Hailey; sisters, Julie Kurdys, Becky Romary; brother, Bruce (Melanie) Spychalski and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John honorably served his country in the United States Marines. He had great passion for wood working, where he made his grandchildren trucks, patio furniture, and doll furniture. John was an avid reader and enjoyed playing mahjong! He loved hockey! His favorite teams were the Chicago Blackhawks & Notre Dame. In addition to his love for hockey, he coached Riley High School Hockey team in the mid 70’s and Irish youth hockey team which he led to a city tournament.

Most of all John always loved spending time with his grandkids and would travel to Indy to see them play in various sports. John enjoyed the simple life and never complained even on his last days.

The family would like to especially thank Center for Hospice Care, Dr. Bilal Ansari and the entire staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology, and Dr. Janet Galanes and her staff for their exceptional care.

Visitation for John will be 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Rosary to be prayed at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 22, 2022 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday, May 23, 2022 at St. Matthew Cathedral, where a one-hour visitation will be held prior to the mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
