Stephen C. Freel March 29, 1945 ~ January 1, 2024 (age 78) Stephen Carl (Steve) Freel, of South Bend, Indiana passed away in his home on January 1, 2024 at the age of 78. He was born on March 29, 1945 in South Bend. He is the son of the late Linden and Rosa (VanDusen) Freel. On November 2, 1967 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Diana Sue Tutorow. Together they shared 56 years of marriage. Steve is survived by his wife, Diana Sue Freel and three brothers; Robert Freel, Richard Freel, and Eric Freel, and his children; Stephen K and Teri Freel, Steven C. and Carmela Freel, Thomas and Rachel (Freel) Cooper, and Nathan and Amy Freel. Steve is the grandfather of eight grandchildren; Jared (Laurie) Cooper, Lauren Cooper, Megan (Samuel) Griner, Karinne Cooper, Alex Freel, Kristen Freel, Wyatt Freel, and Elliott Freel. Steve was preceded in death by his siblings; Linden Freel, Paul Freel, Lawrence Freel, Elizabeth Freel, and Elaine Freel. Steve grew up in South Bend with his parents and six brothers. After graduating from Washington High School, he accepted the Lord as his Savior. He then joined the United States Army and served overseas in Vietnam. After his service in the military, Steve served the Lord as a faithful husband and father. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, and exploring the outdoors. Steve showed his love for the Lord by serving in the church and always being eager to give a helping hand. He will be remembered by all for his friendliness and his smile. His love of God and his family was evident in every aspect of his life. Memorial visitation for Steve will be held from 2pm-3pm on Saturday January 6, 2024 at Community Baptist Church, 5715 Miami Rd. South Bend. A memorial service will be held at 3pm at the church. Steve will be laid to rest at a later date at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend.
