SOUTH BEND - Ronald Arthur Sanders Sr. was born July 3, 1949 in South Bend, Indiana to Joseph and Henrietta (Gulley) Sanders. He departed this life Saturday evening March 27, 2010 at his home, following an extended illness. On October 13, 1973 he was united in marriage to Aretha (Brown) Sanders, from this union was born, one son, Ronald Arthur Sanders Jr.

He attended Harrison Elementary School, graduated from Washington High School of South Bend, IN. He served in the U.S. Army and also attended Vincennes University and Indiana University East, Richmond with a Degree of Associate Science.

He was a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, a former employee of Richmond State Hospital for 28 years and served on the Board of Directors of Richmond State Hospital Credit Union for 15 years. He was a former employee at the Bottle Shop for 20 years. He also was a member of Board of Directors of Greenwood Apartments and a member of American Legion Post #359. Ronald loved people and met no strangers. Ron loved to encourage kids to do their best in life. Ronald had a warm personality and a heart of gold. His past time was playing cards, bowling, and had the gift of gab.

Ron leaves to cherish his memory his faithful wife, Aretha, of 36 years, and son Ronald Jr.(Tonya), his one and only daughter-in-law, his mother, Henrietta Sanders, brother, John Anthony Sanders, sisters, Brenda J (Jimmy) Sanders-Smith, Constance Sanders, all of South Bend, Indiana, granddaughters, Tayshia Elaine and Laron Marie Sanders, grandsons, Ronald Arthur Sanders III and Ty Williams, and special friends of 30 years, Mike and Billie Harmeirer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Sanders Sr., brother, Joseph A. Sanders, Jr. and sister, Cordelia Ann McNamee.

Ron also leaves to mourn a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 1431 S. 14th Street, on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 1:00 pm. Calling will be held from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.
