Christine Louise Bruce

August 26, 1950 ~ April 27, 2023 (age 72)

Christine Louise Bruce, a spirited and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023, in South Bend, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 26, 1950, in South Bend, to the late Douglas and Eleanor (Zielinski) Bruce, Christine dedicated her life to caring for others and cherishing her family. She was 72 years old.

Christine was a proud graduate of a nursing program, earning her certificate and embarking on a lifelong career in healthcare. She worked tirelessly for 35 years caring for the elderly, and she touched countless lives with her compassionate care and dedication to her patients. Christine's colleagues and patients alike admired her commitment and passion for nursing, and she left an indelible mark on the community.

Outside of her career, Christine was a devoted mother to her two children, Stacy Nicodemus and Aaron Bertman, both of South Bend. She doted on her six grandchildren, Max, Sam, and Lizzy Nicodemus, and Kalina, Anilee, and Connor Bertman. They were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Christine was also overjoyed to welcome her great grandchild, Parker Nicodemus, into the world, and was a loving great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Susan Sisk.

Christine's love for her family was matched only by her love for quilting. She spent countless hours creating beautiful and intricate quilts, each one a testament to her creativity and skill. Her quilts were cherished by family and friends alike, serving as a reminder of her.

Upon her retirement from nursing, Christine embraced her love for the outdoors. She relished the beauty of nature, whether it was taking long walks in the park, tending to her garden, or simply sitting on her porch in the sun. Her appreciation for the natural world was evident in her everyday life, and she found great solace and joy in her time spent outdoors.

Christine's life was a testament to her dedication to her family, her patients, and her community. Her unwavering spirit, kindness, and compassion will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service that will not soon be forgotten.

In keeping with Christine’s wishes, cremation will take place and the family will be honoring her privately. Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

May Christine rest in peace, knowing that her love and spirit live on in the hearts of those she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Christine's memory to Center for Hospice Care, Ernestine M. Raclin House, 535 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
