Doris J. Gunn

February 11, 1942 ~ December 15, 2021 (age 79)

Doris J. Gunn departed this life on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Doris was born in Okolona, Mississippi on February 11, 1942, to Jettie and Bettie (Gates) Gunn.

Doris attended Washington High School.

In 1959, she gave birth to a son, Steven T. Gunn. In 1963, she was bountifully blessed with a set of twin girls, Catherine Y. Gunn and Kimberly Y. (Lafay Fleming) Gunn-Fleming. 

Doris was a former member of New Generations Church.  Doris was an avid cook.  She was best known for her awesome chocolate cake. She loved spending time with her entire family. Everyone knew if you went to Doris’ house, you were sure to have a good time filled with lots of love and laughter.

Doris is survived by her two daughters, Catherine and Kimberly; grandchildren: Steven T. Gunn II, Kyaira Jackson, J’Lonnis Horton, LaFay Fleming Jr., and Diamond Gunn; two great-grandchildren; and a special granddaughter, Alonce Wood; along with a host of other family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jettie and Bettie Gunn; her son, Steven T. Gunn; her sister, Jannie Graham; brothers: Clifford Bowens, Mozell Bowens, James Q. Gunn, and Alonzo Gunn.
