James Ray "Jim" Coleman
October 27, 1945 ~ June 14, 2025
James Ray Coleman, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away on June 14, 2025, at the age of 79. The son of the late Hershel Coleman and Darlene (Troutman) Shannon, Jim was born on October 27, 1945, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and spent his final moments surrounded by the love and care of his family in Plymouth, Indiana.
A proud graduate of South Bend Washington High School, class of 1964, Jim went on to dedicate more than three decades of service to Sears & Roebuck Company, where his strong work ethic and amiable personality were greatly valued by his colleagues and the community. He touched the lives of many, not only through his dedicated work but also with his engaging presence in various associations over the years.
Jim held a passionate interest in genealogy, devoting countless hours to tracing family histories and connecting lineage. His meticulous research and love for storytelling enriched the family's understanding of their roots and created a cherished legacy for future generations. This interest led to many heartwarming visits with his nieces and nephews, as he would share tales of their ancestors and impart the importance of knowing one's heritage.
Jim is survived by his sister, Suzanne Matthys; brothers, Donald (Kathryn) Coleman, Robert (Josette) Shannon; sister-in-law Nickki Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he adored. Jim was preceded by his parents, and brothers, Michael Shannon and Thomas Coleman.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 4-5 p.m. with services beginning at 5 p.m. all being held at Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN 46545.
