Ferrell E. “Snook” Johnson, Jr., of South Bend, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, in his home at the age of 71.

Ferrell was born on October 31, 1953, in South Bend, to the late Ferrell E. and Berta (Tucker) Johnson, Sr.  He grew up and remained a lifelong resident to the area.  After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army proudly serving his country during the Vietnam era.  On September 24, 1993, in South Bend, he married Ruthine Miller.   He was a master metal engineering inspector, a position he eventually retired from.  In his spare time, Ferrell enjoyed playing a game of pool, watching Notre Dame Football and western movies, yet his greatest joy came from cooking out with his loving family. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 9820 and the American Legion Post 284.

Ferrell is survived by his loving wife, Ruthine Johnson, of South Bend, by his daughter, Angela Petty, of South Bend, and by his sons, Curt (Sarah) Petty of South Bend, Clayton (JoAnna) Johnson, Ferrell Johnson, IV, and Richard Martinez, all of Topeka, Kansas.  He was the proud grandpa of eleven and great grandpa of six.  He also is survived by his sisters, Vicki Burger and Brenda (Felipe) Hernandez, both of South Bend, and a brother, Charles Johnson of South Bend. 

As per Snook’s wishes he is to be cremated. There will be a celebration of life held on June 14th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at VFW Post 9820, 4829 Linden Ave., South Bend, with Military Honors, Hanley and Sons funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.
