Robert Lee Harris, Jr., went home to his Heavenly Father Dec. 17, at 1:00 a.m.
He was born March 28, 1943, in Covington, Tenn., to Robert Lee Harris Sr.and the late Annie Lee Tipton Harris.The family moved to South Bend, Ind.in 1958.He attended Washington High School and after joining the U.S.Air Force received his diploma.Robert retired from the United States Air Force after 30 years of service.
He lived in Rancho Cordova, Calif., with his wife Nel of 40 years and daughter, Paula. Robert has been an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church for 25 years.
Cherishing his memories are his wife, Nel; daughter, Paula Harris Murphy; two grandsons, Tony Jr. and Kyle Murphy who were very much loved by their grandpa. Also surviving are his father, Robert Lee Harris, Sr.; brothers, Richard (Wilma) Harris of South Bend, Ind., Carl (Barbara) Harris of Blythe, Calif., Clayborn (Glena) Harris of Elkhart, Ind., Roy (Carol) Harris of Lancaster, Texas, Clifford (Jaci) Harris of South Bend, Ind., James Harris of Cleve, Ohio, Kenith (Brenda) Harris of South Bend, Ind.and a half brother, James of Halls, Tenn.; sisters, Beatrice Wakefield, Dorothy Hampton of Cleve, Ohio, and Roberta Sharp of South Bend, Ind.; a special nephew, Bryan Kuykendoll of South Bend, Ind.; niece, Chaunte’ Martin of Cleve, Ohio; and a special family mother, Olivia Hopson.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Annie Lee Tipton Harris; brother, Toby;and a sister, Brenda Bethany.
Robert enjoyed working with his hands and he was a very crafty person.He worked for the city of Sacramento as a painter and a mechanic for the U.S.Air Force before retirement.Working on classic cars was a hobby he enjoyed. Robert could build anything he set his mind to.Helping family and friends he loved;there was nothing you asked of Robert he wouldn’t do. We loved our dear brother but God loved him more calling Robert home.
We love you so much our hearts are broken But we know you are in a more peaceful place Sitting upon the throne, rejoicing, with the Angels on High. We will miss you, but never, forget you.
Visitation is Monday, Dec.22, from 1 to 6 p.m.in the Thompson Funeral Home, 3601 50th Ave., Sacramento, CA 95822. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Dec.23, at 11 a.m.in Shiloh Baptist Church, 3665 9th Ave., Sacramento, CA 95187.
