Johnnie Henry Williams
Affectionately known as "John H.," was born on May 2, 1945, in Parkin, Arkansas, to George and Ida Mae Williams, who preceded him in death. He peacefully ascended on January 20, 2025.
Johnnie was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Effie Lee Cole, and moved to South Bend, Indiana, as a little boy. Growing up on the West side of town known as the “Lake”. He was well known and admired in his community for his kindness and generosity. He attended Harrison Elementary School and Washington High School.
Proudly serving his country by enlisting in the Navy, where he traveled the world and served during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he continued his service in the Navy Reserves while working at Bendix Corporation. In addition to his professional life, Johnnie quietly made a significant impact within the local chapter of the Black Panthers, exemplifying his dedication to justice and community empowerment.
On November 10, 1967, Johnnie married Mary Bell Sconiers.
He is survived by his children: Verdell Williams, Annanette Williams, Pamela Williams, Lorenzo Williams, Tangee Sobchak, Philip Williams, Tessa Watts (Shaun Watts), Jonathan Williams (Shari Williams), and Milton Williams.
Stepchildren: Ruth Anne Binion, the late John Binion (Wendy Binion), and the late Margaret Binion. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and family.
