Charles Norflett Easton
January 18, 1939 ~ December 14, 2024 (age 85)
Deacon Charles Norfleet Easton Sr., beloved son, husband, father, brother, cousin, and friend, born on January 18, 1939, to Booker T. and Mahalia Johnson-Easton (the fifth of 15 children) in South Bend, Indiana.
He was the first black sophomore to play football at Washington High School where he won several championships in football. After graduating from High school, he enlisted in the Marines, stationed in San Diego, California, where he ranked as Private First Class and received an honorable discharge.
He loved his family and ALL his children, and he enjoyed being the boss, arguing with everyone, even if they were older than him. After he retired as a construction worker from Ironworkers Local #292, he spent most of his time attending basketball games with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved spending time at the bowling alley with family.
He confessed Christ in his younger days where he served as a deacon of Pentecostal Cathedral COGIC under the leadership of Bishop Donald L. Alford Sr. He loved dancing and singing in the choir, especially one of his favorite songs “Order my steps.” He was a faithful member of Pentecostal and through his faithfulness some of his children joined and confessed Christ as their savior. He also enjoyed watching the Notre Dame Football team. He also loved to eat at Bill’s Restaurant on Western Avenue.
Later in life he joined Gethsemane Church of God under the leadership of Bishop John Brown. He continued to be a faithful member and servant; when he praised God, everyone around him praised God. He also enjoyed reading his bible, giving words of wisdom and knowledge to the young people. He loved the Lord and being a servant of the lord. He attended Morning Glory Prayer at 6 am Monday-Friday, until he was no longer able to drive, and then his daughter would pick up him every morning ensuring he made it to prayer. He just wanted to give God glory. He was a kind and fun-loving person, and he never met a stranger. Gone but never forgotten. We love you dad!
