William Edwin Forrest

South Bend -- Services for William Forrest, 55, of 52900 Winterberry Drive, who died at 2 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Olivet AME Church.

Mr. Forrest was an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance Co. He was born Jan. 28, 1934 in Grenada, Miss., and lived in South Bend for 48 years, coming from Grenada.

On Aug. 15, 1981, in South Bend, he married Margaret Sciney, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Yvette White of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Robin Ann McDonald of South Bend; two grandchildren; four sisters, Ida Mae Carter of Berkley, Calif., and Ann E. Plump, Dorothy N. Howell and Emma D. Carter, all of South Bend; and a brother, James A. of South Bend.

He was a graduate of Ball State University, where he was a member of the swim and track teams. He was a former teacher of the South Bend Community School Corp., and a volunteer on the schools' swimming program. He was a former salesman for the Xerox Corp., where he received many awards, including salesman of the year. He was affiliated with Junior Achievement; a swimming coach for International Special Olympics; a member of South Bend Driftwood Drifters Inc. and Elks Lodge 298; a founder of Solidarity Day; and a veteran of the Air Force.
