Lewis Charles Magers, 50, passed away at South Shore Hospital in Chicago on September 6, 2024. Born December 28, 1973, Lewis grew up in South Bend, IN and resided in Chicago the last 30 years. A 1993 graduate of Washington High School, Lewis was a gifted athlete and earned a football scholarship; he later attended Harold Washington College in Chicago. He will be remembered fondly for his deep faith and generosity of spirit, his creative culinary skills, and his beautiful singing voice. Lewis is survived by a daughter, Brittany Payne (Jake Kennedy); sisters, Charmaine Sanders (Jerry), Lara Matthys (Kurtt), Rebekah Magers, Amy Rhine (Dwight), Kenya Jones, Patricia Crawford, and Precious Jones; brothers, P. Michael Johnson, Anthony Johnson (Shelley), Todd Magers (Elizabeth), Daniel Magers, and John Greer (Julie); his grandfather, Lewis Hood; and a host of aunts & uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews, and friends. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Angel Magers; his parents, Thomas and Marlene Magers; his mother, Diana Hood; and his brother, Kerry Magers. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
