Richard Scott - Class Of 1982 VIEW PROFILE

Richard "Rick" Scott

Richard "Rick" Scott, 60, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at his home in South Bend, IN. Rick was born April 27, 1964, in South Bend, to the late Donald and Christine (Jozwiak) Scott. He married his childhood sweetheart, Tammy (Knapp) Scott, on Nov. 6, 1982.

Left to cherish the memory of Rick along with Tammy are his children, son, Andrew Scott of South Bend; daughter, Amber (Jacob) Kettring of New Carlisle, IN; granddaughters, Alice and Claire Kettring; and granddog, Charlie Scott, who loved traveling along with them to job sites. Also surviving are many brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews, to whom he was known as "Uncle Bug."

Rick attended Washington High School in South Bend, and he was a skilled carpenter his entire life. He could fix anything and everything. Rick was the owner of Scott & Son Construction, where he and Andrew cultivated decades of dedicated customers and referrals who entrusted Rick to tell them "this is what you're gonna do" with their projects. He was notoriously stubborn, as many can attest, but lovable nonetheless. Many of those customers became like family to Rick, Tammy, and Andrew.

Along with construction, Rick enjoyed traveling and camping, taking his family on many trips around the midwest, and Tammy's favorite, Florida. He also enjoyed fishing, and tried to teach his kids the art of sitting and being patient - something they are still learning. He could often be found watching his TV shows, his favorites included the Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island, Green Acres, Married with Children, and the Three Stooges (without Shemp). He also had a love for cartoons, and shared that with his grandgirls, who were the joy of his life. Alice and Claire are lucky to have experienced a love like that from their Pawpa.

Rick's visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN, with a service beginning at 7 p.m.
