Elizabeth Marie Irby
April 19, 1936 ~ August 25, 2024 (age 88)
Elizabeth M Irby (Mnichowski) Guzman,88, a lifelong resident of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024, at home with her family.
Elizabeth was born on April 19, 1936, to Elizabeth & William Green in South Bend, IN. Her father William Green Died 20 days after her birth. She was later adopted by Ervin Mnichowski.
She attended Our Lady of Hungary Catholic grade school and went on to Washington High School (1954).
Elizabeth married Raymond Guzman, in January 1960. They have three children, Paul Guzman, Mary (Jeff) Desits, and Ervin (Susan) Guzman.
Elizabeth was always busy at living life. Her passion for life, family, and service was evident in everything she did. She was a fabulous cook always trying new recipes. She especially loved baking and cooking traditional Hungarian, Polish, and Mexican foods. She even had a small catering business. Spending time with friends and family was what she loved best.
Liz and her family participated in the international host family association of Notre Dame. Giving over thirty men and women a place to call home during their time at Notre Dame. They all became her family and remain to this day.
Liz built a successful career in Insurance, she retired from Laven Insurance in 2001.
Liz traveled extensively throughout the US and abroad throughout her life. After retiring in 2001, Elizabeth and her husband Raymond Irby traveled in their RV throughout the USA, often volunteering as campground hosts in county, state, and national park systems.
Liz started Swedish embroidery and quilting in 1990 and quickly turned this hobby into a passion, making many quilts for her family and friends.
Elizabeth is survived by her Husband Raymond Guzman. By her three children, Paul Guzman, South Bend, Mary & Jeff Desits, Frontenac, MO, Ervin & Susan Guzman Birmingham, AL. Son, and daughter of her heart Guillermo Camoriano, Janilla Lee
Six grandchildren, Patrica Guzman, Natalie (Willie) Dillingham, Tyler (Britnee) Desits, Allison (Ferdous) Rahman, Gabrielle (Jordan) Strandell, Elizabeth Desits.
Five great grandchildren Nolan and Wyatt Dillingham, Wyatt and Joyce Desits, and Adam Rahman.
Elizabeth was proceeded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Ervin Mnichowski, her brother William & Barbara Mnichowski, her sister Charlotte & Howard Clay, her second husband Raymond Irby and nephew William Mnichowski.
Visitation from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday September 2nd, 2024, at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka.
Funeral mass 10:00 AM Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, South Bend IN on Tuesday September 3rd, 2024. Visitation at the church one hour prior 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
