In Memory
Ryan Lee Ewing
Jan. 17, 1976 - Dec. 26, 2014
Ryan Ewing, 38, of South Bend died Friday, December 26, 2014, three years to the day of being diagnosed with colon cancer. Four-wheeler rider and scratch golfer, Ryan enjoyed being outdoors, especially at his parent’s property and Ort’s Green Meadows. Although occasionally he could be lured back indoor by the combination of Wednesday night poker and a whiskey and coke.
He was a music lover and collector of Oliver toy tractors, Ryan always had a reassuring smile that set everyone at ease. Even before his death, Ryan put his family and friends first, giving us the gift of being able to say goodbye.
Ryan served our country in the United States Air Force in the Aerospace Ground Equipment Shop at the 16th Equipment Maintenance Squadron in Herbert, Florida. He was a member of Carpenters Local 413 and spent most of his career working on maintenance for the South Bend Community School Corporation.
Ryan is survived by his wife, Kimberly (Bailey) Ewing; his parents, Lee and Roxanne (Gerbeth) Ewing; maternal grandparents, William and Betty Gerbeth; siblings, Julie (Jason) Burghduf, Sara (Craig) Lanning, Jennifer (Kerry) Wiest, Andrew (Ashley) Bailey; nieces and nephews, Brian, Ethan, Emma, Evan, Shannon, Callen, Hannah and Ariana as well as countless aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Lucille Ewing.
To honor Ryan (always the first willing to throw a party) a celebration of life party will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to Colon Cancer Alliance, 1025 Vermont Ave., NW, Suite 1066, Washington, DC 20005 or Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614.
