Bernard R. Zmyslo

Bernard R. Zmyslo, 77, of Sylvan Lane, South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2005, in his home. Bernard was born on January 24, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Paul and Josephine Zmyslo, and was a lifelong area resident.
On June 6, 1953, he married Betty Kiryan, who preceded him in death in 1999. Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Bolka; and by three brothers, Stephen "Bounce," Walter and Stanley Zmyslo.
Mr. Zmyslo is survived by his daughter, Deborah Zmyslo; his son, Mark (Stella) Zmyslo; his grandson, Tyler Zmyslo; a sister, Bernice Chrobot; and by two brothers, Florian and Al Zmyslo, all of South Bend.
Ben was a firefighter for the South Bend Fire Department, retiring after 33 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of American Legion Post 357 and a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM today, October 7, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday, October 8, 2005, in St. John the Baptist Church, with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 St. Johns Way, South Bend, IN 46628.
