Elvie Beatrice (Green) Wright

Ms.Elvie Beatrice Wright, 76, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister of North Fremont Street, South Bend, Ind., departed this life at 4:45 a.m.on Friday, Aug.13, in Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, following a long fight with breast cancer. She was born to Carveen Richard Green and Johnnie Bell Townsend on March 18, 1928, in Champaign, Ill.They both preceded her in death.Coming from Champaign in 1930, she moved to South Bend.

She was a graduate of Washington High School. She retired in 1997 from the South Bend Housing Authority after serving over 15 years as the collections manager. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Elvie is survived by four sons, George L.(Doris) Wright, Anthony Wright, Andrew Wright and Wayne Palmer, all of South Bend;10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren;two sisters, Lydia Torbert of Detroit, Mich., and Elvadia Hood of Long Beach, Calif.; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Her parents, Johnnie Bell Townsend and Carveen Richard Green, three sons, Terrance Michael Wright, James Leland Wright and Michael Joseph Wright, and a brother, William Bradford Green, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.on Wednesday, Aug 18, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, with burial following at Southlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug.17, from 6 to 8 p.m.in Alford’s Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford’ s Mortuary.
