Beloved mother and grandmother, Helen passed away from natural causes on Saturday morning, April 16, 2005. She was born in the Seminole Mines of West Virginia in 1928 to Louis and Mary Botos, Hungarian immigrants who made their home in South Bend. Helen was preceded in death by her mother and father, and by her husband, Richard W. Swiental, who died on September 7, 1 978. Also deceased are a sister, Rose Foley, and brothers, Art Botos, Joe Botos and Billy Botos.

Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca (Todd) Ullery; two sons, Michael R. Swiental and Richard L. (Julie) Swiental; six grandchildren, Debbie, Mary, Ian, Katie, Kyle and Travis; and two sisters, Ida Koss and Mary Valentine Murphy.

A graduate of Washington High School, Helen worked at Studebaker and on October 3, 1952, married Richard W. Swiental. A devout Catholic, Helen was a parishioner of St. Matthew Cathedral. She worked at South Bend Drug Company and retired from the St. Joseph County Health Department after 10 years. Helen was proud of her cooking. A fantastic Hungarian cook, her gulyas and homemade soups were famous and loved by the patrons of the Parkview Tavern for many years. Helen and Dick owned and operated the Chevron Cafe from 1976 until Dick's death in 1978.
