Frank E. Kitkowski
Frank E. Kitkowski, 91, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully Friday, January 18, 2019, at Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. Frank was born on April 4, 1927 in South Bend to Frank and Valeria (Chmielewski) Kitkowski, and was a lifelong resident.
He retired from Holbert Engineering where he was employed as a Tool Engineer. Frank had also worked at White Farm Equipment for twenty-five years and at Oliver Plow Works.
On August 9, 1952, in the former St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, he married Elizabeth O. Horvath, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah (Donald) Nelson and Renee Knippel both of South Bend, Indiana; two sons, Gregory (Rebekah) Kitkowski of New Port Richey, Florida and Richard Kitkowski of South Bend, Indiana; five grandchildren, Theresa Nelson Long, Brenda (Michael) McDonald, Elizabeth Knippel, James Ward,Kellie Bousman, (deceased) and ten great-grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Piekarski and Loretta Wojciechowski; and two brothers, Stanley and Albin Kitkowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, where members of the United States Navy will conduct Military Honors. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m.
Frank was a member of Christ the King Parish. He served in the United States Navy during W.W. II. Frank had a great sense of humor was very outgoing. Frank was a musician and had his own band, “Frankie Kit and his Orchestra” and was an avid fan of jazz and the big band sound. He enjoyed golfing and he and Betty enjoyed traveling, camping and dancing.
