Elizabeth F. “Betty” (Horvath) Nyikos

Betty Nyikos, 71, beloved wife, mother of three and grandmother of six, died on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Mrs. Nyikos was born to Alex and Mary Horvath in South Bend on Sept. 9, 1927. She attended and graduated from Washington High School.

On Aug. 23, 1927, she married Joseph Nyikos. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer. Mrs. Nyikos is survived by her loving husband Joe; her daughter, Judy (Tom) Allen of Crown Point, IN; her son, Rob (Patty) of Noblesville, IN; her son, Joe (Mary) Nyikos, Jr.; six grandchildren, Eileen Nyikos of South Bend, IN, Tom Allen, Jr., of Oklahoma City, OK, Noreen and David Nyikos of Noblesville, IN, Jennifer and Greg Nyikos; and many dear relatives and friends.

Ernest Horvath, her brother, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Nyikos was retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation, where she worked for 20 years in food service. She was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.

Visitation is on Monday, Oct. 12, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hickey Funeral Home on East Jefferson Boulevard, with a Rosary at 5 p.m. Mass will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of St. Joseph County, in lieu of flowers
