Ernest Liszewski

May 26, 1925 - August 9, 2004

SALEM - The family of Ernest Liszewski sadly announce his passing on August 9, 2004. Ernie was a cherished husband, loving father, grandfather, and dear friend. His loss is felt by all whose lives he touched and enriched. Ernie is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Helen; daughter, Diane; sons, Ron and Paul; and grandchildren, Mason, Ashley, Garett, Matthew, and Mary Kate. Ernie was born on May 26, 1925 in South Bend, Ind.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served in the Central and Asiatic Pacific Theatres. Ernie met his future wife, Helen while stationed at Mare Island and they were married in 1946. Mr. Liszewski earned a degree in business administration from U.C. Berkeley and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area before being assigned in 1955 to start up an industrial fabric manufacturing plant for Asten, Inc. (in Salem which he managed until 1973. He then went to one of their divisions in South Carolina. He participated in corporate marketing conferences in France becoming fluent in French in order to contribute on behalf of the company. Ernie retired as President of Ascoe, Inc. and returned to Salem in 1985.

He was a member of Rotary International for over 45 years and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. Also for years, he authored bi-weekly indepth profiles of fellow Rotarians for the club Rotogram. He served on the Board of Directors at Benedictine Nursing Center and was membership chairman of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in United Way campaigns. For years he never missed his weekly visits to deliver Meals on Wheels. He is remembered for his love of family. He enjoyed traveling to distant places, golf, fishing, playing bridge, and gardening.

A funeral mass will be Mon., Aug. 16, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 721 Chemeketa St., N.E., Salem, Ore. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
