Irene W. (Wegh) Derda

Irene W. Derda, 77, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 12:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Irene was born on July 8, 1925, in South Bend, to the late John and Barbara Wegh. She was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Virginia Orisich.
On July 21, 1947, in South Bend, she married Ervin A. Derda. They celebrated their honeymoon for the next 55 years. Irene was a devoted mother who was sincerely loved and admired by her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of the community, most recently serving as a volunteer at St. Joseph Community Hospital in Mishawaka. Irene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka and the Christ Child Society.
She is survived by her husband, Ervin A. Derda of South Bend; a.daughter, Susan Derda of Albany, N.Y.; a son, Jeffrey J. (Debra) Derda of Lakeville, Ind.; two grandsons, Daniel E. Derda of Lakeville and Gerrad L. (Crystal) Derda of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Emery (Vera) Wegh of Terryville, Conn., and John (Josephine) Wegh of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Alice Cook of South Bend; and two brothers-in-law, Arthur J. (Jeanne) Derda of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Rudy Orisich of Three Rivers, Mich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Cremation will follow with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery on Tuesday at 1 1 a.m. Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m.
