Robert E.Szerencse Sr., 81, of South Bend, passed away at 6:10 a.m.Saturday, December 2, 2006, in Memorial Hospital. Robert was born on December 1, 1925, in South Bend, to Martin and Helen (Linner) Szerencse.On August 21, 1948, he married Sophia Konstanty. He was preceded in death by his parents;his wife; their son, John Szerencse;and his brother, Emery Szerencse.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert (Patricia) Szerencse Jr.of Granger and David (Yvonne) Szerencse of South Bend;and his grandson, Robert E.Szerencse III.

Robert served in World War II, Operation Cross Roads in the Pacific in the testing of the hydrogen bomb, and had retired from Parish Machine Company in 1990 after 42 years.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.Monday, December 4, 2006, in St.Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S.Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Gardens at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Child Society.
